Did you know that for every Mindful Chef meal you enjoy, we donate a school meal to a child living in poverty? We are proudly the only recipe box globally pioneering this ‘one-for-one’ model.
Back in September 2017, we teamed up with the charity One Feeds Two to make this possible, and decided on an ambitious goal – to donate 1 million meals. We’re over the moon to tell you that, together, we’ve now reached 6 million meals! That’s the equivalent to feeding 30,000 school children for an entire year.
In light of this, we’re setting ourselves a new goal to reach 10 million by the end of this year. Thanks to your help, we’re making feel-good food that has a positive social impact, a reality.
Fuelling education
It’s been a year since our founders, Myles and Giles, went to Malawi and met 13-year-old Lexa. The Q&A below shows the life-changing power of these meals, which really are making a difference.
Tell us about Lexa…
Lexa’s mum is a teacher and it’s her dream to be one, too. She wants to help other children get an education, and she loves learning. She’s especially brilliant at maths and English, and loves to help the others like her.
What about outside of school?
It’s not all study! Lexa plays netball with friends and enjoys her reading.
How does One Feed Two help?
The hot meals provided can be life-changing. Even though Lexa’s school is an hour’s walk from home, she told us she gets in early to eat the breakfast provided at school – it gives her the energy and power she needs to study better. This shows the life-changing impact these donations have.
Why Malawi?
This Commonwealth country is one of the poorest in the world. There are 3 million primary school aged children in Malawi, the majority of which rely on their school meal each and every day. Despite the efforts of the school feeding programmes and other funding organisations like One Feeds Two, there are still many children in Malawi (and many many more around the world) who still do not have access to a school meal and no other safety nets.
By working with One Feeds Two, we can tackle hunger on the ground. It’s incredible that as we grow, our donations grow – and more and more children like Lexa can benefit.
How’s that for some feel-good food?
We do also work with UK based charities such as The Felix Project to donate any surplus food – plus, we run the Reverse Advent Calendar initiative each Winter, to drive food donation in the UK.
