Cooking Instructions

The protein cooking time listed in this recipe has been updated.

As of December 2025, we’ve revised cooking times for all our proteins to reflect improved food safety guidance.

Check out the latest recommended times in our Cooking Guidelines.

  1. Bring a saucepan filled with salted hot water to a boil. Cut the broccoli into florets, then add to the saucepan. Boil for 3-4 mins, until cooked. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside. Add the rice and boil for 25-30 mins, until cooked, then drain.
  2. Meanwhile, roughly dice the pepper. Thinly slice the spring onions. Finely chop or grate the garlic and ginger. Finely dice half the chilli (remove the seeds for less heat), and thinly slice the remaining into long strips. Slice the steak into 1 1/2cm thick pieces.
  3. Make the broccoli beef. Halfway through cooking the rice, heat a medium frying pan or wok with 1 tsp oil on medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for 2-3 mins, until golden brown. Add the garlic, ginger and diced chilli (to taste) and cook for 1 min. Add the vinegar, maple syrup, tamari, sesame seeds, spring onions and cooked broccoli. Toss to combine, then remove from the heat.
  4. Make the fried rice. Heat a medium frying pan with 1 tsp oil on medium-high heat. Add the pepper and cook for 5 mins, until softened. Add the cooked rice and season with sea salt and black pepper. Mix to combine.
  5. Serve the pepper rice and sesame broccoli beef in bowls. Garnish with the sliced chilli (to taste).
