Cooking Instructions

The protein cooking time listed in this recipe has been updated.

As of December 2025, we’ve revised cooking times for all our proteins to reflect improved food safety guidance.

Check out the latest recommended times in our Cooking Guidelines.

  1. Bring a large saucepan filled with salted hot water to a boil. Add the rice and boil for 25-30 mins, until cooked. Trim and quarter the green beans. Add the green beans and peas to the rice in the final 2-3 mins, then drain all together.
  2. On a separate chopping board, cut each hake fillet into 3-4 pieces. Add the chickpea flour to a large bowl, then add the tikka paste, curry powder and 50ml water (25ml for 1 person). Season with sea salt and black pepper. Add the fish to the bowl and toss gently to coat evenly.
  3. Heat a large frying pan with 2 tsp oil on medium-high heat. Cook the hake for 6-8 mins, turning once, until golden, crispy and cooked.
  4. Meanwhile, place the coconut in a small mixing bowl with 1 tbsp boiling water and leave to soak. Roughly chop the coriander and finely dice the chilli (to taste). Add both to the coconut bowl, along with the juice from half the lemon and 1 tsp olive oil. Season with sea salt and black pepper and mix well.
  5. Return the empty frying saucepan with 1 tsp oil over medium-high heat. Add the mustard seeds, ginger & garlic paste and remaining curry powder, then cook for 30 seconds. Add the cooked rice, green beans and peas to the pan. Season with the juice from half a lemon. Season well with sea salt and black pepper.
  6. Serve the hake bites alongside the lemon rice and the coconut salsa.
