Cooking Instructions

The protein cooking time listed in this recipe has been updated.

As of December 2025, we’ve revised cooking times for all our proteins to reflect improved food safety guidance.

Check out the latest recommended times in our Cooking Guidelines.

Before you start

  • Bring a large saucepan of salted water to the boil
  • Pull out a peeler, a large frying pan, a large bowl, a sieve, a grater & a measuring jug

Get started

  • Add the rice to the saucepan and boil for 25-30 mins, until cooked
  • To the large bowl, add the beef and pat dry with kitchen paper. Add the cornflour and a generous pinch of salt. Toss to coat
  • Heat the large frying pan with 1 tbsp oil on medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef strips and cook for 8 mins, turning occasionally, until golden and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside

Time to prep

  • Meanwhile, peel and halve the onion, then finely slice. Cut the carrots into 1/2cm thick batons (peel optional). Trim and cut the green beans into thirds. Finely grate the garlic and ginger. Zest and halve 1 lime
  • Combine the tamari and honey with 75ml hot water in the measuring jug

Build the flavour

  • Reheat the large frying pan with 1 tbsp oil on medium-high heat. Once hot, add the onion and carrot and cook for 5-6 mins, until starting to soften. Season with salt and pepper
  • Stir in the garlic and ginger and cook for 2 mins

Finishing touches

  • Add the green beans to the rice pan for the final 5 mins, then drain together and return to the pan. Stir through the lime zest and season with a pinch of salt
  • Add the tamari mixture to the frying pan and bring to a boil. Add the beef back into the pan and toss to coat
  • Simmer for 2 mins, until the sauce has thickened, then remove from the heat. Add a squeeze of lime and season to taste with salt and pepper

Plate up

  • Serve the beef and rice into bowls. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds and garnish with the remaining lime, cut into wedges
