Where do Kissabel® apples come from?
The Kissabel® story began in France in the 1990s, inspired by the dream of a group of passionate fruit growers and breeders to create unique and delicious varieties of apple that were coloured inside. After 20 years of natural cross-breeding between wild red-flesh varieties and high-quality apples, the first varieties of Kissabel® destined for the marketplace were developed in 2016.
Why is the flesh red or pink?
This is the result of cross-breeding, grafting and selections beginning with the combination of wild apples unsuitable for cultivation, but with naturally red flesh, and some common household varieties. The colour of the flesh is therefore completely natural; in fact, every apple of the same variety is unique because of the random distribution of the pigments as the fruit ripens. Kissabel® apples do not contain any type of additives or colourings and are not GMO.
Is Kissabel® a variety of apple?
No, the Kissabel® brand identifies a range of apples with coloured flesh, ranging from pink to intense red, distinctive for their different colours, flavours and periods of harvest. There are currently three main types of Kissabel® apples but our suppliers, World Wide Fruit are new colours and flavours.
What are the main characteristics of Kissabel® apples?
Every variety has different colours and flavours: Kissabel Rouge, with its red peel and flesh, has an intense flavour, enriched with notes of wild berries; Kissabel Orange, pink on the inside and orange on the outside, is juicy, with an aroma that perfectly balances acidity and sweetness; Kissabel Jaune, with its yellow peel and pink flesh, is sweet and delicate.
As well as the classic healthy properties of apples, Kissabel® are also rich in antioxidants, really important substances for combating ageing and responsible for the red colour of the flesh.
