Nested in the sun-splashed Arreton Valley on the Isle of Wight, IOW Tomatoes have been growing some of the tastiest produce for over 15 years. Home to over 40 varieties of juicy tomatoes, they are hand-picked at their ripest to ensure they’ll reach your table at peak freshness.

At Mindful Chef, we love celebrating outstanding British ingredients, which is why we love to work with IOW Tomatoes. Together, we're bringing their exceptional tomatoes to our vibrant seasonal recipes, making it even easier to enjoy produce that's bursting with flavour.

Rooted in sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of IOW Tomatoes – after all, caring for the planet today helps protect the tomatoes of tomorrow. Awarded B Corp status in 2024, this ethos is woven through everything from how they care for their crops to the way they use the resources around them.

Succulent tomatoes start with healthy soil. Working closely with the Soil Association, the team continually refines its growing practices to nurture the land as well as the crop. Rainwater is collected, compost is made on site and waste is kept to a minimum. It's this thoughtful approach that helps them grow exceptional tomatoes while protecting the environment for future harvests.

Growing in a changing climate

Growing with nature also means adapting to changing weather conditions. During periods of prolonged high temperatures, tomato plants can experience heat stress, particularly around flowering and fruit set.

Excessive temperatures can affect pollen viability and successful pollination, which may reduce fruit set. Heat can also influence fruit development, ripening and quality, depending on the intensity and duration of the conditions. The effects are not always immediate, and crops may take time to return to their normal growth pattern once temperatures moderate.

Temperature also influences the activity of the bumblebees used to pollinate tomato flowers. In very warm conditions, bees may spend more time regulating the temperature of their colony and reduce their foraging activity during the hottest parts of the day, potentially affecting pollination.

A tomato revolution

If you thought these vibrant, juicy jewels were best from the Mediterranean, think again. IOW Tomatoes have helped change the way people think about British-grown tomatoes. For years, imported varieties dominated supermarket shelves, while home-grown produce was often considered bland and unexciting. But by putting flavour first, IOW Tomatoes have shown that British tomatoes can be every bit as sweet, vibrant and full of character as those from more traditional tomato-growing regions.

Today, their tomatoes have earned a reputation that extends far beyond the Isle of Wight. Celebrated by leading chefs, foodies and passionate home cooks across the country, they've become synonymous with exceptional quality and outstanding flavour.
