5 ways you can upcycle your packaging | Mindful Chef

April 24, 2020

As a certified B Corp (or ‘better’ corporation), we’re committed to being a sustainable business at the heart of everything we do. After all, our planet and our people matter.

We care about having a positive impact as we grow our business, from stopping food waste – by sending perfectly measured ingredients in your recipe boxes – to our packaging promise to become 100% recyclable in 2020.

At the moment we’ve sadly had to stop packaging returns, to keep you all safe (read more here), but what we’ve noticed is that our community has become more creative than ever!

Check out these 5 awesome ideas below…

For the families

Aquariums, Forts, Robots, you name it, we’ve seen it! There are endless creative ways you can re-purpose your packaging and keep the kids (and adults) busy.

Tom putting the final touches to his robot!
Here’s Freya and her robot CV-19 – The ears, eyes and nose are also Mindful Chef pots!

For the gardeners

For all our green-fingered friends, why not recycle our brown paper bags into little seedling pots? Better yet, they can go straight into the garden, paper & all when the plants are big enough!

Thanks to MC Customer Anna for sending her inspiration – she’s growing sprouts, tomatoes, courgette , carrots and pumpkin here!

For the furry friends

Thanks to MC customer Rosanna for sending this beautiful photo of Ginger Rogers

Now, we know cats are fond of boxes, but it looks like Ginger Rogers has also taken a liking to our insulation material! It’s made from recycled denim offcuts, so is perfect for pet bedding.

One customer Caroline stepped up the game, not only did she plump up her Pitbull Maven’s existing bed, but she also made him a brand new cushion using some leftover Alexander McQueen material – now that’s one fancy pooch!

You can find Caroline on Instagram at @purepatterns for other crafty creations.

For the homeschool heroes

Like many, if you’re currently homeschooling your children, you could try a creative activity using our boxes to replace a more traditional approach to education. One customer Claire is using our boxes for her kids to make a different ‘habitat’ every week, from to aquariums to jungles (see below)!

10-year old Jack also sent us this photo of his Geography River Project – this is his model of the Yangtze River!

For the Al Fresco Eaters

If you’re fortunate enough to have some dining space outside, but suffering from flattened, lacklustre cushions, give them a little spruce up like Angel has done here.

We love seeing all of your creations! Please do share them with our community by posting on social by tagging in @MindfulChefUK and #mindfulchef
