Perfect pea recipes

May 8, 2026

Sweet, tender and bursting with flavour, the humble pea is a springtime staple. Toss them into seasonal salads, stir them through comforting risottos and curries, or simply enjoy them straight from the pod.

Bright green garden peas are a British staple – when popped fresh from their pods, they’re sweet enough to be eaten raw. Sugar snaps (or mangetout) are young garden peas harvested with edible pods that pack a satisfying crunch. Petits pois, meaning ‘little peas’ in French, are picked even younger and are perfect for adding pops of sweetness to dishes like pasta and risotto.

Here in the UK, pea season runs from April to August. Frozen peas are typically harvested during this window, meaning you can enjoy them at their best year-round. Whether you’re growing peas in your garden, picking them up at your local market, or enjoying them in your Mindful Chef meals, we’ve got the recipes to make them shine.
