Back in 2018, we became the first recipe box in the UK to certify as a B Corp, which is something we’re incredibly proud of.
This March, we’re celebrating B Corp month with a community of brilliant companies using the power of business for good. The theme, Behind the B, is all about lifting the lid on what it means to be a B Corp, so we wanted to share what goes on behind the scenes here at Mindful Chef. If you’re new to B Corp, you can read more about our journey here.
British seasonal produce

Delicious food starts long before it reaches the kitchen; it starts in open fields and warm greenhouses, with people who care deeply about what they grow.
We’re so grateful to work with British producers who take pride in their craft. From thoughtfully reared beef and free-range chicken to responsibly-sourced fish, you can taste their commitment in every bite. And then there’s the vegetables – vibrant, full of flavour and cultivated by skilled hands. The Barfoot family’s Tenderstem® broccoli, grown in the south of England, and The Tomato Stall’s sweet Isle of Wight tomatoes are reminders of just how joyful homegrown produce can be.
Putting communities first
Being a B Corp means looking beyond our own day-to-day business to create meaningful impact. Together with our community, we’ve donated over 20 million school meals to children living in poverty through our partnership with One Feeds Two. Closer to home, in 2025 alone we donated over 97 tonnes of food (that’s the equivalent of 239,571 meals!) to those in need through The Felix Project. And every December, our community comes together through initiatives like our annual Reverse Advent Calendar, meaning we can support some of the 7.5 million people in the UK facing food poverty.
Tackling food waste

When we started Mindful Chef, we recognised that recipe boxes could help tackle one of the biggest challenges in our food system: waste. Across our operations, we use accurate forecasting to help suppliers plan effectively and redistribute surplus food to charity. Pre-portioned ingredients can also reduce household waste, which accounts for 70% of food waste in the UK. By only sending what’s needed, we’re helping to minimise food waste across the entire lifecycle of a meal – 51% less than the supermarket equivalent (based on a 2022 study).
Our Low Carbon range
In 2021, we became the first recipe box to launch a Low Carbon range – helping our community to make better choices. Each recipe falls below the emissions level needed to reduce dietary-related emissions by 2030, in line with the WWF’s Food in a Warming World report (2018). To calculate impact, we look at the full picture: ingredients, transport from farm to kitchen and customer, processing, packaging, cooking, refrigeration and any leftover waste. Find out more about our Low Carbon range here.
Pioneering packaging

In 2025, 94% of our packaging we sent to customers could be recycled. Today, 26% of what we send to customers is loose, 64% of our packaging is easily recyclable at home and 4% is recyclable at large supermarkets. We’re still working to improve harder-to-recycle elements (it’s a fine balance with keeping food fresh and safe), collaborating closely with our suppliers to find solutions.
Bringing the B Corp community together
We believe that when a community comes together as a force for good, lasting change follows. In 2025, we hosted our first B Corp event, bringing together like-minded brands including THIS, Pip & Nut, Huel and Lily’s Kitchen. It was a space to connect, exchange ideas and strengthen the collective impact of our community.
The people who make it happen
Here at Mindful Chef, being a B Corp is a company-wide commitment. From sourcing to employee wellbeing, every team plays a role. Our internal ‘B Keepers’ champion our impact initiatives and ensure we continue to challenge ourselves to do better – not just during B Corp Month, but every single day.

Looking ahead: raising the bar
This year isn’t just about celebrating progress, it’s about setting a new standard. As we look forward, we’re raising the bar across the board:
-
Recertification under new standards:
We’re proud to be among the first cohorts navigating updated, third-party verified B Corp requirements – setting a new benchmark for accountability.
-
Moving to science-based targets
We’re developing a detailed climate action plan aligned to Net Zero that is grounded in science-based targets.
-
Increasing our voice in the B Corp community
From advocacy to collaboration, we’re committed to amplifying the issues that matter most.
-
Empowering our team to give back
This year, 2,784 volunteering hours are available to our team. We’re encouraging everyone to make full use of these, strengthening our impact beyond food.
We’re incredibly proud that Mindful Chef continues to lead the way as a mission-driven food business. To find out more, read our 2025 Impact Report.
